After-School All-Stars “Light Up the Sky” Luncheon

Miami, FL (November 20, 2015) Supporters of After-School All-Stars South Florida (ASAS SF) raised $72,000 at the “Light Up the Sky!” Inaugural Luncheon which took place on November 13th at the Epic Hotel in Downtown Miami. More than 130 local stakeholders and supporters, including three local journalists from South Florida, two of whom are alums of the program and have pursued journalism as a result of their participation in ASAS, joined together at the luncheon to celebrate 20 years of serving at-risk students and the greater South Florida community.

The proceeds will continue to serve 2,000 kids daily by providing comprehensive after-school programs in 17 middle schools throughout South Florida proven to keep children safe and help them succeed in school and life.

After-School All-Stars is the leading national provider of year-round, school-based, comprehensive after- school programs. In South Florida, well over 100,000 lives have been impacted since its founding in 1995. Program participants and graduates attended the luncheon and shared some of their remarkable success stories which demonstrate the incredible impact that ASAS has had on them, ensuring success in school and in life. ASAS alum from Brownsville Middle, Ti’Andre Bellinger shared how ASAS’ impact led to his current membership on the board of General Colin Powell’s America’s Promise Alliance, current enrollment in college and his future career in law enforcement. Others success stories were also shared.

ASAS was started by Arnold Schwarzenegger over two decades ago and has been empowering students by keeping them safe and helping them succeed in school and in life. Every school day, students in low- income communities have access to ASAS’s free programs that offer academic support, enrichment opportunities, and health and fitness activities.
